I notice that under tools>chapter marks I am invited to set the program so that I get a file listing the chapters cuts assocciated with the video. What if anything can I do with this list & is it usualy in any other programs?

I used to set up very long shows (sporting events - two hours) and cut out the commercials.
There being no other good place to set chapter marks, I had VRD export the cut points to a file.
At the time, VRD didn't make DVDs, so I fed that file into DVD Labs Pro, and had it set chapter marks at the cuts.
It worked as well as any other approach.
At the time, I didn't particularly like having DVD Labs put chapter marks every 5..10 minutes, which it could do.
Now days, when I make a rare DVD, I use a different tool, and let it auto-place the chapters every 5 minutes.
These are not for my viewing, but those chapters might help whoever does watch 'em.
The days of carefully locating chapter marks on scenes are long behind me - just not worth the effort.

VideoReDo help files and FAQ.
I used to follow the same procedure as Anole (importing the chapter files into DVD Lab Pro), but now I love the fact that VRD can export directly into the MKV format which natively supports chapter stops. I no longer have need of the individual chapter files created by VRD, but I still create them out of habit and for the rare instance when I edit with the intent of putting the recording onto dvd.
