I've lately been having some strange behaviour with VRD, with this error message appearing from time to time when I try to either save a video file as... or open the destination window for a qsf. The odd thing is that it is related to whether there are any favourite places saved. If there are, and the message appears, deleting them and restarting vrd makes it go away.
I haven't had the time to prove conclusively what the issue is, but could it be because there is a spun down USB drive attached to the PC--even if it is not one of the locations on the favourites list? I've just noticed there might be a correlation here. Windows XP Professional, latest vrd beta. |

There it goes again. Mark a start and end point, trim unselected, save video as... and the error message. Clear all the favorite places, restart, and no error. Similar behaviour with the joiner. It happens there at the same point, i.e. hitting 'create video from joiner list' and invoking a 'save as' dialog.
As no-one else seems to be having this problem it looks like it's my particular set-up. I've no idea what it could be, though, and it's actually very fiddly to have to avoid using favorite places! There is no USB device attached this time, spun down or otherwise. Any ideas? Last edited by ddave; 11-16-2009 at 09:47 PM. |

No ideas, but there is a fix related to favorite places that will be in the next beta build. The fix is unrelated to your problem, but who knows?
Which screen is displaying the "invalid argument"?

An error message opens on hitting 'save [video] as' in the main edit window, or I think anything else that needs as save file as dialog box to open--so hitting the button to input a name and location when qsfing, or 'create video from joiner list' for example.
I'll see what the next beta brings. Thanks. |

OK, I've done that. I'll reinstate the favorite places and see what happens. Sounds promising though.
Thanks. |

I tried that and the problem remains.
I had a Windows crash and reinstall yesterday, which eliminates a lot of possible foul-ups on my machine, so I think it's got to be a problem with the app. I do have a portable USB hard disk attached to the PC at some points, including when the error message just reappeared. Tried to qsf something, and the error message appeared as soon as I tried to specify a destination folder. Cleared the recent folders, still no go. Cleared the favorite places (none of which are on the USB drive, of course), and the problem disappeared. Last edited by ddave; 11-29-2009 at 11:34 PM. |

So with or without the drive attached, the message can appear?

It could appear at any time before I cleared the recent files/folders. This at least lessened the problem, though there is a lot going on and I can't say it didn't happen again since, nor whether the drive was attached or not. Sorry about that!
Since the reinstall of Windows it has happened that one time, when the drive was attached. I'll put some favourite places back and see if I can find any pattern. Last edited by ddave; 11-30-2009 at 01:26 PM. |

I have installed from a limited account, from an administrator account, and with Anti-Virus disable. Still see the same problem with "save as." If I run the progam as administrator it works but not when run from a limited account.
I wonder if it has to do with the profiles because from the limited account no profiles show up and it is not possible to import or save a profile. Tried to export the profiles when run as admin and to import them when run as limited user but they can't be saved. It appears that the limited user does not have permission to read or write the profiles. This is on Vista Basic 32-bit. Version 3 the only time I had to run as administrator was when I wanted to save as a DVR-MS file. With Version 4 I am unable to even get to the save dialog (when running a limited account.) |
