Installed b479, on one machine when it opens any file, it immediately closes.

There's nothing in the log to help figure out what happened :

***** Loading: U:\HDTV\chicken run dts\chicken.run.1080i.hdtv-dts-prm-sample.ts

07/18/06 00:32:53 Opening file: U:\HDTV\chicken run dts\chicken.run.1080i.hdtv-dts-prm-sample.ts, filetype is: MPEG2 TS PIDs: x11 / x14

and it's dead. No crash box, it just closes itself.

I have two machines, identical configurations, both with nvidia cards. One works fine, the other does this.

Tried all the display driver settings, no help. Tried a fresh install with all blank registry settings, no help.

going back to 475, all works fine.

any ideas?

Did you try changing the audio settings on the Tools>Options>Playback page?

Changing audio settings didn't fix it .... what did fix it was uninstalling videoredo, deleting the program files folder, rebooting, reinstalling .479, then merging a registry dump from the machine that works.

Works fine now.

(Shrug) here too. See what happens when you try 481.

481 works fine. Maybe something got busted in the registry, very weird.
