Feature Request - Drag and Drop

Hello there

Is it possible to add the ability to drag and drop video files directly onto the program (such as the edit/playback section and the menu when first opened) within VideoReDo TVSuite 6?
(this is already a feature within Pro I'm pretty sure, but it does not seem to be in the latest official build of TVSuite)

Edit: Just checked the latest beta version of TVSuite 6 and it does not have this feature. Is there a specific reason why it's available on VideoReDo Pro but not TVSuite? Super annoying having to use the open dialog menu when you can just drag files onto the UI on Pro version.

Many thanks

Samuel

Well, I have 810b so could be a difference, and dropping a file on VRD6 (splash screen or not) they open.

I have just downloaded the latest Beta of TVSuite 6 (v6.60.6.810 - Nov 28 2019) and when dragging the TS file onto the open file splash or the player window (after previously closed file) it does nothing (you have to click the open dialog and locate it) yet within the Pro version (latest and even the official 2018 release) the drag and drop works and you can just drag files to open them. Which is what I am used to doing with the pro version.

My VRD6 is Dec 3rd release (released in the forum for people with Thumbnail problems>me).
.MP4, .TS, .M2TS, .MPG thankfully they all drop in and work here.

Best of luck there!

Nope, have just tried that version too and it's still not working on Windows 10, 64 bit. No drag and drop support still in TVSuite v6.60.6.810b (Dec 3 2019) despite being in VideoReDo Professional since pre 2018 release.

@Danr any reason for this/info please?

Regarding the dropping of video files directly into the playback area (black space):

Just tried it repeatedly here and it works fine. The black area is just a static control, like one of the buttons, so anything you drop on it should get sent right up to the parent window. There is really no reason this shouldn't work.

Are you sure the files you're dropping can be opened by VRD? If I attempt to drop something weird that VideoReDo doesn't understand it seems to hang and lockup. It's probably because we have a generic catch all that if VRD doesn't recognize the file we pass it off to ffmpeg to try and open and it's hanging or crashing.

Hi there

I don't know what to say. It works fine with the Pro trial I have but when trying with the TVSuite install, it does not work and yes the file is supported as you can see in this clip on YouTube.

Weird.

I wonder if it has to do with the weird path. Looks like the path has some sort of network address in it and then the folder is #recycle. It's possible either one of those could be getting messed up on the drop. Try putting the file into a normal path, like just on your C drive, does it work then?

Yes, you are correct in that the TS video files are saved on to a network mapped drive within my LAN. I have also tried with the file from the Desktop, C/D Drive and many other locations with no joy. As I have said, it seems to be something with TVSuite versions because the Pro version works fine, even with the mapped drives and network path. I do have Avast Internet Security installed which does the whole requesting access to 'special' folders like Desktop and OS Drive by default but it works with Pro and it usually asks for permission first.

In TVSuite, clear the log file, try the drag and drop and see if there's anything in the log that indicates what file it's trying to open.

Hello. Have just tried that and as expected its got no output other than the following despite dragging several different files into it: Doesn't even seem to be trying to load them unlike Pro version.
Code:
2019-12-18 23:02:18 Log file cleared, previous file renamed to: C:\Users\LocalUser\AppData\Roaming\VideoReDo-TVSuite6\VideoReDo6_2019-12-18 (02).Log

Are you dragging into the splash screen? Just tried dragging a networked mapped file into the V6 splash screen without issue.

Do you want to try disabling your malware to see if that's affecting something?

Just so you know the drag and drop portions of the code for Pro and consumer are identical. So the fact that it works in Pro and not in consumer means it's almost certainly some outside force. Probably antivirus.

I have tried disabling Avast yes and still nothing within TVSuite. Just FYI: I've tried dragging files on to both the blue splash screen as well as the black player screen, both of which I have been doing fine on the Pro trial.

You might want to do an uninstall/reinstall with AV disabled, then add an exception to AV for the VRD install folder before launching VideoReDo again. Sometimes AV can delete or replace DLLs or settings that can cause weird behavior like this even if you try later with it disabled. A reinstall will start you over from scratch, and the exception will prevent your AV from messing with any of VRDs files.

Doing that seems to have fixed it. Must have been a missing file or something during install.

Glad it worked. AV software can do all sorts of weird stuff. Delete files, block access to registry keys, etc... that can cause just subtle little issues like this. Smaller companies like ours seem to have more issues as the big AV makers already have exceptions for the bigger software companies.
