Good bye

On Monday I start a new job. At that point I'm going to cease all involvement with VideoReDo.

There is still a chance that Dan's wife could sell the company and that VideoReDo could be revived in some form, but if that happens it will likely be without my involvement.

I have worked on VideoReDo for the past 16 years. It has been a fantastic chapter in my life. But I have to move on.

Thank you all for being loyal users and supporting this product that we put so much hard work into. I wish you all the best.

This is indeed sad news but i have to say totally understandable.
I have to say that I have my doubts that VRD will survive in anything like its past format especially without your involvement.
The immediate concern is how long the fix that you put in place allowing existing customers to reinitialise their sofware will continue. There should be a spokesman from what remains of the company to step up and clarify what is going to occur.
Another concern is that this forum is a useful communication method for receiving and giving advice on VRD. It coulkd disappear overnight if the plug is pulled. I for one will continue to use VRD for as long as is practicable and I think many others will do so too, meaning a forum on a more stable host somewhere could be helpful.
Thanks again Dan for all your assistance.

Wish you the very best!
You have been a wonderful help all these years going that extra mile in explaining how things work and fixing problems.
Will be using VRD as long as I can, fingers crossed!

Will miss you.

Hello Dan,
I am happy for you that you have found a new job. This is probably the most important thing for you at the moment ... to have an income. I wish you all the best for this.
I can well understand that after all these years it will not be easy for you to leave this project behind. You put so much heart and soul into it. A thousand thanks for that and thanks for what I was able to learn from you about video editing via this forum and support contact. (y)

I still hope that this project will not come to an end or that there will at least be a permanent solution for continued operation with a license but without activation. I have seen some cracks in the vastness of internet o_O, but I have no faith in such things and would rather go through an official route if I need to reinstall on a new computer.

Maybe we will see you from time to time on this place...

Stay healthy and all the best for the future
Frank

Best wishes, Dan203! VideoReDo has been invaluable tool for so many of us, and we appreciate all of your work over the years. It's unfortunate that we weren't able to express this to DanR before his passing.

As others have said, hopefully a way to continue use of the software will be found; I think many of us intend to keep using the current release of the software as long as it remains viable and it's certainly not reasonable to expect you to continue hosting an activation server indefinitely. Regardless, be sure to check in from time to time if you're able.

Relieved to hear you've found a new job, Dan. Congratulations. I'm sure it will work out well, considering how well you have handled your VideoRedo role, first in writing excellent software and then in dealing with the daily petty irritations from users like me!

I would like to thank you for all those times when you have patiently explained things to me or others, in terms that have enriched our useage and technical understanding of the video editing process,
with rapid software updates where needed.

You've left us with a good solid build of TVSuite 6 as beta 836a, thanks for that.

I'll still be using VideoRedo daily for as long as possible, but I'll miss my wife hassling me for spending too much of "her" time online in the Dan Haddix and Dan Rosen threads!

Thanks again Dan, and very best wishes for your future.

It's great news Dan that you have found a new job after so much uncertainty during the last few months. It has been a shock to us all but none more so than to yourself and family. Although I have not been as frequently as most on this forum, I have constantly been using VideoReDo for about 15 years which is not long after the software came out. Both you and Dan Rosen have been very caring with users concerns and have produced a great piece of software. It is a shame that it may come to and end but hopefully it may survive in some form or another. Our only issue is that if this forum folds how will we know unless someone from Dan Rosen's family updates us with what the future holds for DRD Systems.

Best wishes for the future Dan
Kind Regards David

Yeah I'm not sure what happens if the site goes offline. I have a backup of the forum database so I could maybe move it to one of my personal domains, but I'm not sure how I'd alert you guys to that.

I do have a backup of the sales database also, with all your email addresses, but I'm not too keen on spamming everyone. Nor am I sure about the legality of that.

It's really just a sh*tty situation all around. Hopefully his wife will sell the company and whoever buys it will keep things going. But without my involvement I'm not sure how likely that really is. 😕

Hi Dan,

Anyway to work with the family to make sure at a minimum the domain and hosting stays active/paid? I know domain is usually paid once a year, but wasn't sure is hosting was monthly, or yearly also.
I also read in another forumn (about the issue) that someone mentioned something about a certificate expiring in November.

Another suggestion someone made was to install/activate VRD in a virtual machine (which wasn't a bad idea). Anyway you can answer on how activation works on multiple machines and hardware configuration. (last I checked that was allowed in the same home)? Currently I have it installed on my W10 machine (eventually will format and install W11 on the same hardware) and install on W11 virtual machine.

Unfortunately it is probably better to jump before you are pushed, meaning setting up an alternative forum venue before the existing venue disappears. Of course you can look pretty silly if it proves unnecessary. However, not all forums are arranged/ hosted by the company that is the source of their purpose.
I note that the company’s own website appears unchanged apart from the link to purchases has been disabled, a fix that I think Dan 203 put in . This suggests an air of detachment from events, which is worrying.

If someone wants to start a VideoReDo fan forum somewhere feel free. Post a link here and I'll join and post there if anything changes. I unfortunately don't have the time to administer something like that myself, and I don't want to start something I can't properly support.

I wonder, just a thought, there's a couple of sites with existing forums to get the word out ...
Perhaps the forums on videohelp.com and digitalfaq.com

One test you can do there is copying the entire installed folder to a RAR archive, which could be tried used if VideoReDo needs to be installed on the new computer
that you have purchased.
Then you just use the installer file as you normally would do, but then after that exchange the installed files with the one from your RAR archive instead.
Might or might not work.

But i wish you Dan203 good luck in your new path in life.

Dan, just wanted to wish you well in your new job, and to say thank you again for all your hard work and for all the help over the years.

I think someone mentioned both DigitalFAQ.com and VideoHelp.com as potential ways of contacting Vrd users - I'm sure you'd receive a warm welcome at both sites.

I think Douglas Adams said it pretty well in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, so I'm going to sign off with a nicked quote from him.

Dan, So long, and thanks for all the fish! 👋

The issue is not installing, but activating. VideoReDo requires activation when installed on a new PC. If the servers go down that will no longer be possible.

Why will not the last version of VRD be released, which changes the program activation with the offline key that was purchased?
When buying the VRD program, everyone probably thought that the program would be able to activate it regardless of whether the company would work or not.
There were a few companies that did so after the project was closed.

Another thing.
There is version 836a on the forum
This version had a MAX PTS bug - which I reported via email and received the newer 836d patch
This is the link I received on the email VRDTVS-6-63-7-836d April 26, 2022 - https://www.dropbox.com/s/t18ituj7xwnsbc6/VRDTVS-6-63-7-836d.exe?dl=0
I will not here certify authenticity by showing an email conversation. If @Dan203 confirms this version ok.

Maybe it will be useful to someone because I have been using this version for a long time and it works fine for me, I do not know what corrections were made here, so if someone does not want to, please do not install.

Sorry, a link to a .exe in dropbox by an anonymous member ... perhaps legit, however surely noone in their right mind would download and run it - particularly as the post also contains zero empathy and is out of theme with the thread.

Funny that Dropbox link downloads a file with a excel extension, but the name is making to look like a exe file.
Big warning sign

Who knows and once reported problems with VRD, he knows that you received a link in Dropbox.
As you can see, this is the link I got, not to my Dropbox account.
I will show a conversation piece in gmail.
As I wrote above, if someone does not want to install, do not install, maybe @Dan203 has an even newer beta version that can be made available.
