joiner dialog box opens behind windows, any workarounds?

I believe this is a problem in windows 7,8, and 10, but since it happens to me with videoredo all the time now, I wonder if anyone has a workaround.

The problem manifests itself when I open an explorer window, select a number of files and drag/drop them onto the videoredo main window. This results in a dialog asking if I want to join (plus 2 other options). Unfortunately, this dialog opens behind all other windows and so it often appears that VRD is stuck. Only by using the win 10 show all windows on screen button do I find the hidden window.

I've tried the regedit options of changing FOREGROUNDLOCKTIMEOUT to 0 but that didn't work for me.

Weird, that dialog is modal which means it's a child of the main window and blocks all input to the min window until it's dismissed. It should always appear over the main window. I'm not even sure how it could end up behind the main window. It shouldn't be possible. Are you using anything weird at the system level like a theme manager or anything else that might effect window behaviors?

I think we may have this fixed for the next beta. Will now bring VideoReDo and the combine / join dialog to the top, at least on Win 10. Should work the same on prior Windows versions.

edit: Actually, it does NOT open behind the main VRD window, it opens behind the explorer window where I did the drag/drop from. If that window is large enough, then it can completely hide the dialog.

This problem is something in windows, apparently since win7 (I'm on the latest win10). I have it with several different windows operations, most notably with a file copy (drag and drop) that needs confirmation (e.g. do you want to replace).

After the very latest win10 update (the anniversary update) I am now seeing it with the joiner dialog after the drag/drop. I did not see this behavior before this update.

A google search of "windows 10 file copy dialog behind windows" will list several posts on this issue.

There were a few suggestions, one said that windows remembers where the dialog was the last time and uses that to decide where to put it. They suggest you manually raise the window before closing it, and then the next time it should appear above, however that does not work for me.

The fix DanR added will pull both the main UI and this dialog to the foreground after a drag & drop is initiated, so it might help. But it sounds like you're having a broader Windows issue so there is no guarantee it will fix what you're seeing.

Email me at support and I'll send you an alpha version to try out so we can see if it's fixed on your end.

that worked

Got the new alpha, so far so good. I kept the older one and went back and forth between them verifying that the problem was there in the old one and fixed in the new one.

I tested it by having an explorer window open and 1/2 covering the VRD UI window. I see that after the drag/drop, the VRD window and the joiner dialog both came forward on top of the explorer window, where before both would remain behind the explorer window.

Thanks
