Missing Audio Track

Have noticed the last couple of weeks that some TV shows recorded using Channels DVR from NBC 12 Richmond VA are not picking up the English audio track. If I open in MKVToolNix or Handbrake all audio tracks (English and Spanish are present). I have to disable/remove the Spanish track the VideoRedDo will pick up the English audio. The does not happen all the time, occurs about 25% of the time and only on shows from NBC

I’m wondering that maybe the broadcast is setting the Spanish track as the primary/ first track and you have VR set to recording just one audio track rather than multiple. If this is the case the only course would be to edit the audio tracks in VR and remove all but the English track (or enable multiple audio tracks).

Where is the setting in VR to record more that 1 track?

First you should open the file and see whether if you use Tools/ Show Video Program info whether there are more than one audio track is listed (and which one is primary!). I’m using V6 and there is a default setting of all audio in the Tools Shift/Options #37 but if you’re not on V6 I’m not sure.

It just shows 1 track. However, handbrake and MKVToolNix show 2 with the English track listed 1st

That doesn’t sound promising. The only think of trying is to re-mux the track with mkvtoolnix and then open the remixed file. I don’t really know why but this has resolved issues for me in similar circumstances.

Can you open the file in MediaInfo, switch to text view, and then copy and past the info here? I'd like to see if there is anything specific about the track that might cause VRD to ignore it.

There is nothing about that file that should be an issue. Can you please open the same file in VideoReDo and copy/paste the Program Info? (Ctrl+L)

Also hold Shift and click Tools->Options, in the manual parameters list look for "Multiple audio mode" and make sure it's set to All.
