NEW!!! Attention TiVo Users

All right, the directory I'm using is the one specified in the Shares tab. Each of my three Tivos, at the bottom of My Shows, see the other two Tivos. If I turn on the PC running the ancient Tivo Desktop, that PC will also show up as a device. The pyTivo PC doesn't show up. Any thing I can look at? Reinstall differently?

That's usually a firewall problem. Did Windows prompt you to allow pyTivo through the firewall the first time you launched it? You need to answer yes to that, or manually add it to the firewall.

I've also seen some complaints about it conflicting with virtual network adapters installed by VM software or VPNs. If you have any of those try disabling them. One last thing you can try is go into the settings, select the network tab, and set the zeroconf option to off. That will force it to use the old TiVo Beacon protocol which can sometimes work when zeroconf doesn't.

It WAS the firewall. I enabled all the pyTivo exe's and it worked fine. I then removed them to try adding them one at a time, but Windows THEN decided to ask if I wanted to enable pyTivo in the firewall. I said yes and it continues to work as needed. A great tool. Thank you for your quick replys. I been using VideoReDo since 2010 to process Tivo recordings and it's been great fun.

Here's a fun little piece of functionality to try adding if you're bored one day. :D The Bolt and Roamio TiVo's have skip mode cuts that get downloaded after a show is finished recording on some channels. It'd be very handy to be able to export those into a VPRJ for the downloaded TiVo file so that you don't really have to commercial scan them.

No really possible. Kmttg offers this feature but it uses a TiVo or Mini to play the program then sends the D button command and records the location. PyTivo doesn't have the code needed to control a TiVo like that.

I was actually considering adding it, but with the new Hydra interface on TiVo they're removing the ability to transfer shows from PC to TiVo. TiVo to PC still works, but who knows for how much longer. Not sure I want to put much more effort into someing TiVo seems to be phasing out.

I hadn't read that about Hydra. I was kind of looking forward to Hydra. I upgraded my Elite to a Bolt a month or so ago and love it. I still rely heavily on the ability to pull stuff off the TiVo, edit with VRD, and drop onto my Plex server. If they remove the TiVo->PC transfer then the TiVo becomes MUCH less useful to me. At that point I could drop cable and just move to all streaming.

The good news is I've upgraded both to Hydra and can still pull shows. And there's discussion in the TiVo forum that the PC upload to TiVo functionality may simply not be complete yet. However, given that they've really stopped working with the developer community, I'm not super hopeful that things will get better. I'm hoping they at least stay as they are.

Hi all, pyTiVo is a great program. Love it.

I noticed today that the "Now Playing" folder no longer shows up in My Shows. Until today it was functioning (or at least within the past 10 days; the last time I transferred to the TiVo that I can recall).

Under Apps, the "Music" and Photos" folders are there, but I am no longer able to transfer from the PC running pyTivo to the Tivo.

I CAN still transfer from the TiVo to the PC.

I have tried restarting the TiVo, restarting the PC, verified all the settings in pyTivo, verified that my firewall is still allowing full access, etc. etc.

The PC has not received any new OS updates in the last 20 days (I use Win10 Pro and routinely defer updates).

Can anyone help, make suggestions?

The only thing I can think of is that TiVo pushed out a small update last week; perhaps this is the cause?

Thanks in advance for any help.

If your tivo upgraded to the Hydra (gen4) UI that would explain this. See post #51.

Ah. Thank you.

I saw that post, but didn't conisder it applicable; as the date of that post is from October, and my issue only cropped up recently (between Dec 15 to possibly back to Dec 5).

I also was making the 'assumption' that it was a conflict between the recent software push and pyTiVo. I suppose I could have re-installed TiVo Desktop 2.83 to see if the issue was occuring with the TiVo software as well.

<sigh> If TiVo never fixes this, then this just may be yet another reason to finally move on from using TiVos. (Especially since I'm in the process of building a very robust HTPC/media server that will be able to stream just about any video file out there; which, of course, would make the PC-to-Tivo feature redunant.)

Anyway, thank you for the reply. Greatly appreciated!

I'm off to the TiVo forums next; to see what they are saying.

I've been a huge fan of VideoReDo for years. With Windows Media Center going away, I switched (back) to Tivo about a year ago, moving my cable card from my HD Homerun (3 tuners) to my Roamio (6 tuners). I have to admit that since moving from Media Center and the MyMovies application, I needed to find a replacement for the flexibility that MyMovies provided. We've settled on Plex. I especially like how each of us at home can watch our own TV shows and pick up where we left off without having to remember what we watched the last time we tuned in.

With that said, when I process my files now, I don't send them back to my Tivo. I simply drop them in the appropriate folder that Plex is monitoring and we view when ready using Plex (whether that be the Plex app on Tivo, or Plex Web Player, or mobile device). I'd being willing to donate/pay (even slightly above reasonable) if there was a way to integrate the Skip from Recorded TV shows with VideoReDo to create a VPRJ as mentioned by SamuriHL. I would still benefit from this even if we opt to upgrade to Hydra.

Thanks for the hard work you do!!

Yeah. Adding RPC/mind support to pyTivo is too much work. Not to mention it requires a certificate to work which the writer of kmttg extracts from the TiVo iOS app. But he says that it expires in a couple months and he's not 100% sure if he'll still be able to extract it in the next iteration. Apparently they keep making it harder and harder to get at with each new release. I've tried repeatedly to get someone at TiVo to issue me an official certificate but no one there seems to know how to do it.

OMG that's just great. Way to go, TiVo. Well, maybe when they're under new management in a few months they'll "remember". LOL Once the TiVo becomes less useful to me than streaming options I'm going to be done with cable. I pay too much for it as it is (thanks, Xfinity, love the new price increase). We've been losing more and more functionality going forward.

Thank you Dan so much for creating pyTivo Desktop. We have two Tivo Premiere XL's and two mini Tivo's that we have been happily using for years. From the beginning, we installed Tivo Desktop Plus 2.8.3 and it worked adequately for Tivo to PC and PC to Tivo transfers. The No Playing folder on the PC would occasionally disappear and I would go through an unhappy dance of rebooting everything, switching from Bonjour to Tivo Beacon or vice versa, revising firewall rules, and lately restarting the Tivo server every half hour or so. A few weeks ago, I guess Tivo installed an update because after that, despite my best efforts, I could see the Now Playing folder but when I tried to list the files, it would immediately report that the list was unavailable. Nothing I did made any difference. Tivo support was clueless. So we are sitting here with many GB of recordings and no way to view them on Tivo. I tinkered with pyTivo years ago and got the Tivo to PC transfers working but never could get PC to Tivo transfers working. Comments on other forums seemed to imply that Tivo had done something to their software a year or two ago that prevented PC to Tivo transfers using pyTivo. Desperate to find a solution, I installed pyTivo Desktop 1.6.16 and, as if by magic, my share folder popped up on the Tivos. Transfers in both directions worked flawlessly and much more quickly than they ever did with Tivo Desktop. You really made my week. By the way, I am also a big fan of Videoredo. TVSuite is vastly superior to all the dozen or so other video editing programs I have used. It is easy to use and does just what you want it to do. Five stars all around.
