Plus theme for v5

I finally got around to doing my rendition of the original Plus UI as a v5 style. Here is a screen shot of how it looks.

plusstyle.jpg

The gradients and 3D buttons are not possible in v5, so I captured the essence of Plus as best I could.

The XML is attached. To install it copy the XML file to My Documents/VideoReDo/UIStyles. (Create folder if it does not exist) Then go to Tools->Options->Start up and select the Custom option. Select the Plus skin from the drop down and hit OK.

I don't understand at what point people decided we should travel back in time to 1970 when graphics were flat and hideous but had to be that way because computers couldn't handle all the different shade, gradients, and 3D look. Now computers are so advanced and can handle all the high end graphics and developers wanna go backwards and make things FLAT and UGLY again!

Just because Microsoft decided to make Windows 8 look hideous and crApple decided to make iOS look hideous doesn't mean you guys gotta follow suit just because that's what "the other guy is doing".

I hate when people use this excuse about it being a "clean look", it's not clean it's FLAT, UGLY and CONFUSING! There was absolutely NOTHING WRONG with the look of VideoRedo4, it was clean, nice to look at, and easy to use.

Oh well guess I'll stick with VideoRedo4 until something forces me to update.

v4 was based on the look of Windows Vista. v5 is based on the look of Win8. You may not like the trend, but it is the trend none the less, and keeping up with the trend keeps VRD from looking out of date and attracts new customers. Also by switching to a flat look we were able to add skinning, which makes it much more flexible as well.

If the UI is really the only reason you're skipping v5 then you're missing out. There is so much more to v5 then just the look.

Keeping up with the trends? How come I don't see Adobe making all their products look hideous? I guess maybe because they're a graphic design company that takes pride in the look of their work and isn't gonna roll over for some ugly "trend".

I mean seriously, how could anyone with any bit of good taste think that this v5.png looks nicer than this v4.png?

As for missing out, I record shows with Media Center and use VideoRedo to strip out the useless commercials. After testing I found that v5 did this no faster than v4 so I'm not sure what I'm missing out on besides an ugly interface.

Sorry if I seem so insulting but I just find it completely bizarre that people somehow think this flat 1970's look is so amazing. SMH

REALLY? I was certainly never a fan of Vista, but I don't remember it looking like the GUI had been designed by the Teletubbies?
Right! lol

No one who knows anything about computers was a fan of Vista. But it wasn't the look of Vista that people had a problem with. Not to mention Vista and Windows 7 are basically identical in appearance which both look just fine.

I swear, every time I'm having a conversation with someone regarding the newer "flat look" of things, everyone always seems to say the same thing that they think it's weird and feels like we're going back in time. But the average user doesn't speak out about it either because they don't know how or just accept it and try to live it with. But I guess that's why things are they way they are in the world today because everyone is just such a pushover. =/

This is not the default skin for v5. It's one I created at the request of a few customers that liked the look of VideoReDo Plus. I personally don't like it either. There are 3 skins included with v5...

Default

Dark

High Contrast

The default one is based on Win8. The dark one is meant to simulate most of the professional video editors on the market. And the high contrast one was done for some of our visually impaired users.

Personally I like the high contrast skin, although I am not visually impaired. I don't use the charms, and if I had my wishes, the whole info panel on the RH side would be a pop-out (like the Windows 8.1 Charms), only seen when wanted. So most of the screen would be actual working area. But I can live with the way it is now.

My apologies for not switching back to the default skin when I took that screen shot. I can understand how you would think I was referring to your skin when that is what is shown in the screen shot. I wasn't trying to criticize your skin specifically, it's the whole "FLAT LOOK" in general that sucks!

To each their own. I personally like the flat look a lot. It looks very clean to me. I think the UI for v4 looks dated. As I mentioned before the UI for v4 (and TVSuite v3) was based on Windows Media Player from Windows Vista, which was released 8 years ago. Here is a screen shot, can you see the resemblance?

v5 is not based on anything specific it just uses flat look that is similar to modern apps in Win8.

"Modern Apps in Win8" The same OS that practically everyone is avoiding like the plague. Just because it's newer don't make it the best. Almost every customer I come across that needs a new system built always has questions when it comes to Windows 8. They want my opinion on what I think because they've heard so many horror stories or they just flat out tell me they want Windows 7 installed instead. The majority of people who actually run Windows 8 just don't know any better. Kinda like the same people who buy a Mac :D

The issues most people have with Windows 8 have nothing to do with the flat look. It's the missing start button and the hard to navigate with a mouse/keyboard modern UI. Windows 10 will still have the flat look but will add a real desktop experience. Most reviews so far have been very positive.

hi
I to prefer v4 looks but the high contrast I find very useful indeed does not seem too strain my eyes for some reason
I use v4 & v5 for different things yes I know I am weird 😍😁

I just upgraded to Ver 5 today and spent some time trying to change the appearance of the interface.
I hate the flat look. Has anyone come up with the "TVSuite" look from Ver 4?
Are there any other options available? I just registered here and couldn't find many references to customizing the appearance. I would have figured there would be a good selection of "skins" available.

TVSuite can't really be replicated very well. Each button in the TVS UI was a bitmap with special shading. The default theme in v5 already uses basically the same color scheme as v4 just with the flat look buttons. Since there is no way to replicate the shading used in the v4 bitmaps it's about as close as you're going to get to v4.

Oh well, I suppose I'll get used to it.
I still can run Ver 4.
Got the upgrade offer and think the new features will be useful.

Try the Dark theme, people seem to favor that one over the default gray theme.

Found this thread after just upgragding VideoReDo Plus to the TV one because Comcast is now rolling its HD channels from MPEG2 streams to MPEG4 (H.264 with AC3 5.1 audio). VideoReDo Plus has long been known as one of the "go-to" software utilities for getting the .tivo file out of its encryption wrapper into an MPEG2 with the convenience of commercial elimination without transcoding. Got a bit of a surprise firing up VideoReDo TV v5 and finding the default flat UI, which I also find hideous, starting with the color scheme. The gray/black option is much less glaring, but the flat appearance takes me back to the original Windows 2.0 and I'm old enough to remember Windows 2.0 from the late 1980's and early 1990's. IMHO, Win8 was a complete reversion to the harsh, garish hideousness of that era. UGLY, UGLY, UGLY! I don't know how else to put it other than utterly garish, and visually repugnant and revolting. Ask me how I really feel about the Win8 and now Win10 UI. Just because Microsoft decides to do something inane isn't a reason everyone else should follow them. UI is about intuitive use with an appearance that has a visual aesthetic that isn't harsh and repulsive causing visual fatigue. It's called visual ergonomics. That seems to have gotten lost, and now we're subjected to visually fatiguing UI's because of their harshness. For all that VidoeReDo Plus and TV Suite have going for them under the hood, and that's great, the flat Win8/10 style UI is a major step backward.

My 2 cents worth on the first impression of the TV Suite v5 UI after just installing it!
