Problems opening cable programs

Lately, I have been running into an issue with shows not opening in VRD. I am sure it is content related and only happens occasionally, but I would like to figure out what is happening.

The program is from a cable channel playing in an SD HD Homerun Prime over a cable card. The program appears to play back fine in the SC HDHomerun DVR but when I try to open it in VRD, I just get a spinning beachball and eventually the program locks up. At first, I thought it might be tied to the SD HDHomerun, but I am also having issues with the exact same program recorded on a TiVo and transferred over with PYTiVo. It seems as though it must be some sort of issue with the signal from the cable company.

lmk where I can send the video files to check out or if anyone has any other ideas. This is something I don't remember having experienced in the past, but now I have had 3 or 4 in the last couple of weeks.

My usual approach is to try remuxing the file before attempting to open it in VRD again. I favour mkvtoolsnix. It will convert to mkv but VRD will handle this. Sometimes the remix/ conversion will re-order things sufficiently. Of course, the resultant file could still have problems!

File won't even open, so trying to use VRD's Quickstream Fix isn't an option.

mkvtoolnix is a free separate downloadable program, nothing to do with VRD. (I figured that QSF wouldn't do the job either).
The odds are that it will open and process the file and hopefully put into a state where VRD will open the remuxed file.

I do wonder about the differing approaches of VRD and mkvtoolnix.
I had a file that I processed through VRD with a huge numbers of errors. I remuxed it using mkvtoolnix - no errors reported - and then reprocessed its output through VRD, now with no errors reported.
To be fair VRD usually handles thing pretty well: sometimes the input itself is the problem and you just have to reaquire it if you can.

"Tools">"QuickStream Fix..."

You do not have to "open" the file in VRD. This may or may not help.
Thanks, that worked! I hadn't thought to open the file from the QSF window. Interestingly, it only showed a few minor errors so I really can't understand why I couldn't open the file in the main editing window.
