Tivo HD - Media Access Key Problem?

When I try to open the .tivo file in VRD, an error message pops up that says

Tivo open file error, check your media access key.

How can I go about fixing that so the file opens in VRD? I know that the media access key I had is correct because that's how I was able to get the file over from my Tivo HD to my computer.

Anyone run in to this problem also? Ideas on how I can get it to open?

What version of VideoReDo are you using? Help>About
Are you using a series 2 or 3 Tivo?
Do you have Tivo Desktop and your Media Access Key installed on the computer you are using to edit?
What version Tivo Desktop do you have installed?
Can you play the files with Windows Media Player?

Tivo is a HD Tivo TCD6521... I believe it's Series 3.
I actually don't have Tivo Desktop installed. I had issues installing it, and I read on another forum how to access the files through explorer:

https://<tivo ip>/TiVoConnect?Command=QueryContainer&Container=%2FNowPlaying

Windows Media Player will open the file and "play" it, but there is no picture or sound. The time bar on the bottom shows that it's "playing" though.

You need to have TiVo desktop installed. This provides the software that is used to decrypt the TiVo file using the Media Access Key.

I have the same problem with my Media Access key. I don't have Tivo Desktop installed, I am using KMTTG. (very slick) It downloads the Tivo files and it can decrypt them also, but I want to use VideoRedo if I can using the *.tivo file. But when I try to open the file I get the Tivo Media Key error.

KMTTG asks me for my Tivo Media key and it should be encoded into th e *.tivo file.

But I have to decrypt the Tivo file first before VideoRedo lets me work with it.

My Tivo is a Series 3 HD. In reading other threads It looks like I need Tivo Desktop to be installed. I just uninstalled it because it was slowing my PC to a crawl. Does it matter what program I use to convert the tivo file? It looks like they all do pretty much the same thing.

VRD needs TiVo Desktop support to open the .TiVo file. You can use another method to convert the TiVo file to .mpg, but this is another step in the process.

If you do install TiVo Desktop, try shutting down the server/beacon thing. You don't need that for TTG and you don't need it running to have the MAK in the proper place in the Windows Registry. And maybe shutting it down will stop the memory hogging.
