Topfield output (rec file) no longer usable as Topfield input after VRD processing

I would like to have VideoReDo cut Topfield 5000 PVR recordings (rec file) and to feed the result as rec file into the Topfield again. But there is no Audio.

If I take the output of a technisat HD-S2 (ts file), do the same VideoReDo processing and input the result as a rec file into the Topfield everything is OK.

Is there an explanation to this unexpected behaviour or do I do something wrong?

I did a quick test with a .rec I had on my desktop, the audio was mpeg2 and played ok when put back on my toppy.

What is the info of your file. Get this from tools tab > Show video program info.

I have problems with AC3 audio from .mpg files off the toppy 7160, when I edit and save as .ts there is no audio, when I play it from my external drive through my blu rays media centre.

I solved this by changing audio to mpeg when I create the .ts and it plays ok.

Can your Topfield 7160 really cope with ts and mpeg? As far as I know, my daughter’s Topfield 5000 needs exclusively rec files as input? And those rec files created by VideoReDo (Version 3.10.3.609) do not produce an audible sound on the toppy 5000.

This newer version is a beta and I am not such an expert in the field of post-production that I could dare to meddle with a beta version. But apart from that, if there would be an official release of a new version would I have to uninstall my present version first or could I install the new version on top of the old one?

The new release has been out for about 3 weeks, apparently with no side affects.

Don't worry that it's beta release, it has fixes and improvements to the version your using.

It will instal over the old one you don't have to uninstall anything.

Thank you ToppyMPS for your immediate and accurate replies. I for myself have not been quite accurate. I have installed a German language VRD version and I guess that the beta version in question does not yet exist. At least I could not find it in the internet. It is certainly not possible to install the English beta on top of my German version?

But perhaps I found the solution to my problem in another thread. I had to change the audio under the options button of the save dialog to "mpeg". Thereafter the toppy played the sound.

But I encountered another, similar problem. Perhaps you can advise me on that as well? Otherwise I would start a new thread.

I own a technisat HD-S2, which outputs ts files. If I process these in VRD and ouput the result as ts again, my HD-S2 will play the sound but no video. Could you point me to the critial value(s) in my settings that could be responsible for the missing video?

Would be better to start a new thread.
No nothing about German broadcasts or the technisat HD-S2

Glad you sorted out the toppy .rec problem.

You can install the Beta over the German version.

Thank you for your advice. Obviously the German translators involved in the VRD development react fast. But after all, the bulk of the translation work is already done in the previous version and the dialogs of the update procedure plus the incremental changes in the software itself would perhaps not take so much time to translate.(?)

When starting the update I was asked in German whether I wanted to install in English or in German language, and then version 3.10.3.616b was intalled over version 3.10.3.609, all in German.

ToppyMPS, you put me on the right track in that post (#2) already. But I did not understand then and thought that your advice referred to your Topfield equipment and ts files only.

But later on I came to read this:

In the file save dialog box, click on the Options button and you can change the audio to either MPEG or LPCM.
I changed my output files after VRD processing in the save dialog accordingly (cf. Attachment) and could play them on my toppy with video and audio. In the Attachment the first diagram shows the video information of the original file as imported from my toppy to VRD. The second diagram shows the save dialog after VRD processing, where the default settings would not change any of the adjustable parameters. The third diagram shows the changes I made to those parameters.

So, I can report that this problem is solved now.
