VAP overwriting output files

Hi dl,

I am using VAP 0.73 with VRD 619a. I am experiencing issues with VAP overwriting existing files when saving the edited output. Let me explain.

I record a fair amount of TV and on occasions, to get all the shows I want, I am forced to record more than one show in the same capture - So I end up with one .wtv file that contains two or more shows that I want to keep. VAP is set to QSF, then Adscan with Comskip. When the files are ready for reviewing, I usually review the first show and then save it directly from the VRD UI - without saving the project. When this has saved, I will then cut that portion of the file, review the cuts from the 2nd show and then save the project file, thus using VAP to complete it's sequence and save the 2nd file automatically. However when I do this, if I haven't renamed the first file, VAP overwrites it - without notice. Can you make VAP act like windows and add (02) or something else to the end of the new filename where that filename already exists in the output folder. This would be a great help and save me time if I forget to rename the 1st file.

Lucky for me that I have VAP just move the completed file rather than delete it so I can recover the lost output...

Thanks

Paul

OK try subbing the attached VAP074T1 test exe. It appends " (##)" to the root file name, where ## is 02, 03, etc. up to 99, then it just overwrites with the original name. The modified names carry through in the pyTivo and BTV metadata file names and in the file name arguments passed to the VAPpostProcess script also.

One quirk to be aware of: If you have names up through 05 for example, and you delete file 03 and run the same process again, it will output with the 03 name. (It scans for existing files with sequential numbers and uses the first number where there isn't an existing file.)

Thanks for the quick response. I have subbed the new .exe in and am awaiting the outcome - stuff recording now to do the test with.

Will let you know soon.

Thanks
