Hi, I'm a LONG time user of VideoRedo TVSuite (pre H.264). I used it exclusively to edit MPG2 videos extracted from DISH Network SD DVRs with PVRExplorer. I recently replaced my SD box with an HD model and now some of my files are H.264 so I need something else to edit those. Obviously my first choice will be to upgrade to the H.264 version of TVSuite. I download it to test and am looking for recommendations for settings.
PVRExplorer writes the H264 files out as .TS files. And they play havoc just existing because apparently Windows 8 thinks it knows all there is about .TS files and tries to extract information about them. At first I thought my system was locked up because even clicking on one would make Windows explorer stop responding. But it would eventually finish what ever it was doing sometimes as long as a half hour later. I found that others had this same problem (not with DISH TS files but other .TS files that were not quite like MS expected). There does not seem to be a fix that doesn't create more problems than it solves so I had to boot an old Win7 disk I had laying around. Win7 has a similar problem but the delays are much shorter (seconds instead of big chunks of an hour).
Anyway, VideoRedo H.264 seems to process the .TS files just fine and does not seem to be doing any recoding when I specify .MP4 (H.264) output. I haven't done any real editing though yet, just chopped off the few extra minutes I record before and after the actual program. I don't suppose anyone here knows if the DISH .TS files ave the issues that causes pixelation around edits?
I am looking for options I should use. The source files are 1080i so one of my questions relates to deinterlacing.
I want the output to be as indistinguishable from the source as possible. I Played with Handbrake a while back (don't even remember why) and I remember never being able to get the output to have the exact same aspect ratio and some other things and it drove me crazy. It would come close but be off just enough to notice when watching side by side. But there was trans or recoding going on so maybe that's not an issue with VideoRedo as I intend to use it.
I think I recall Anole using PVRExplorer in the past so hopefully someone has some advice for me. But I see no evidence in the forums that anyone is working with H.264 .ts files from the HD version of PVRExplorer.
